Spark lines are new features released recently with Power BI. The spark lines are continuous flow over a period of time. The Spark Lines can be added to a table or matrix. The Spark lines gives the user an experience to understand flow of the value over a Period of time  

In our example ,will use a matrix Visualization as shown below

In the example we have considered the Channel wise sales and corresponding sales value.

Select Add a sparkline from sales value from the Sales Value option

A Setup window opens up with sales in X axis and select the corresponding date value in Y axis.

This is how the matrix looks after adding the sparkline.

But here its done based on months which means it aggregates the value of a month from various years eg., if u have sales value for Jan 2019 and 2020 then it aggregates all together and gives the sparkline which is not correct.

So I have created a column for month year as

MonthYear = FORMAT(MONTH(‘Date'[Date]),”00″) & ” ” & year(‘Date'[Date])

Now the month year is chosen in place of month.

Now the sparkline looks like above in which the difference is very clear.

Now we process with the sparklines by Month Year further.

Next is formatting which looks as below

The chart type can be line or column. The column looks as above. The data color and width can be set as per the need and no conditional formatting available.

The marker is used to show the highlight values as per the selection.

Based on the marker selection the sparkline changes as below.

There are below setups to be considered

• Select the style preset to none.
• Set column and row sub totals to off.
• Next bring the values above the sparklines, to do that set the value option,
• Switch values to rows to on.
